FSM is committed to going beyond the harvesting of timber: by preserving the entire area as a natural forest, our company contributes its share by helping to reduce the deforestation of the Amazon, which accounts for 5% of all greenhouse gas emissions globally. Aware of its role in the area of sustainability, FSM promotes this reduction in deforestation by strictly following the law, stopping the practice of land burning, generating benefits to the Amazon’s ecosystem and contributing to the solution of social and environmental issues.
forest management plan
FSM started a Sustainable Forest Management Plan (SFMP) in 2002. The focus was to align our business view to our commitmment with socially and environmentally sustainable practices.
REDD FSM Project
Florestal Santa Maria S/A has reached the final validation stage of its REDD project, which began in 2009, becoming the first private property in Brazil to offer a validated environmental service.
commitment to quality
Because the preservation of the Amazon biome has become a global priority, FSM has engaged in several of the activities foreseen in the state government’s Payments for Environmental Services Program
In its farm, Florestal Santa Maria has been developing environmentally and financially feasible projects such as the Sustainable Forest Management Plan and the Forest Logistics Project.
non timber forest activity
The forest offers many commercial opportunities such as the extraction of fruits and medicinal plants. Florestal Santa Maria is now looking for partners to develop the potential of these products.
