forest compensation

The Brazilian Environmental legislation allows for a mechanism that makes it possible for rural property owners who have failed to keep the required natural forest area intact to compensate for this, provided that they acquire an area that is the same size and located in the same biome as the original area that was cleared.

Since FSM chose not to exercise its right to clear 20% of its total area, it can offer 14,000 hectares to property owners who are currently trying to adjust to the laws set by the environmental agencies. This compensation mechanism will go into effect upon the implementation of the newly approved National Forest Code.
